Welcome

This blog will start up, hopefully on January 1, 2010.
We will be exploring, learning and perfecting talents, skills and techniques.
This blog will have myself as the main poster and my 6 daughters as the other possible posters.
I will post our reference material and were I found it. If you want to work with us, great, but please post your results (good or bad).

Quiche! And Pepperoni Pizza???

Hey!! Well as you know, we're making something with a pie crust this month. So I decided I wanted to make a Quiche! Well, I didn't want to make just any plain old quiche, so I am making a Pepperoni Pizza Quiche! I'm pretty excited, I hope it tastes good. Anyway, I'm going to try and make it sometime next week. I'll make sure I take pictures and let you know how it tastes.
Wish me luck!!

I got the recipe from Foodieview.com. and my pie crust recipe will either be from a Julia Child book we have or my cookbook, not sure which.

Abby

Pastry Crusts- Barb

That really should have been the term I used instead of pie crust.
For my first endeavor:
I have picked the Herb-Crusted Chicken PotPies from the book Cooking School Secrets for Real World Cooks by Linda Carucci. I will probably be fixing it for dinner later this week or beginning of next. I will have Abigail take some pictures.
I will probably do a dessert pastry crust also. Even though Dan and I are trying to lose weight. Who can resist the thought of a homemade apple or cherry pie?

Delay

Sorry for the delay. We had to go out of town suddenly due to the death of my father-in-law.

End of the Year Exploits

One thing I did during the Month of December was start a batch of Vanilla Extract. I know it is easy, but you know finding good vanilla beans you can afford isn't.
I found a source, ordered them (they got here fast). Sliced them. Put them in a pint jar (actually two, I gave one to Jen) and poured Smirnoff vodka over them. I must admit I have opened the jar to smell it a couple of times. Within days it smelled and looked right, but I am waiting until the end of January to use them. Hopefully, I won't run out of the store bought before then.

Me, Abby, Mary and Bethany

We are going to pick out a recipe that requires a pie crust.
We each will make the pie crust from scratch, possibly trying more than one recipe for a pie crust.
We will get back to you later as to what our recipe is.

Note: We have checked out many of Julia Child's cookbooks, Joy of Cooking, I have some vintage Betty Crocker cookbooks and some Professional Cooking cookbooks.
